Grazyna KWAPISZEWSKA has studied biotechnology with a special focus on molecular biology. She focuses her research on the processes regulating vascular remodelling, a hallmark of pulmonary hypertension. In recent years she has identified several molecules such as receptor kinases and their ligands in inducing cytoskeletal rearrangements and proliferation of smooth muscle cells. Her primary focus is to understand the cross-talk between composition of extracellular matrix proteins, tyrosine receptors and transcription factors. Delineating the mediators of vascular remodelling can aid the discovery of novel potential therapeutic targets. Grazyna Kwapiszewska is a group leader and deputy director of Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Lung Vascular Research. She is also scientific associate in the Department of molecular anaesthesiology at the MUG.
