Grounds for the waiver of the tuition fees

If the time during which you are exempt from tuition fees is exceeded, you may apply for the tuition fees to be waived based on the following grounds:

Military or Civilian Service

Notice! A waiver of tuition fees due to military or civilian service may only be requested if academic leave was not taken for this purpose.

Periods of military and civilian service will be eligible when they require an absence of more than two months of the relevant semester, including periods when no courses are held.

The waiver will only apply within the prescribed period of study per stage of study or per Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral programs plus two semesters.

The application for a waiver of the tuition fees must be submitted for each semester.

The following documents are required:

  • Letter of confirmation from the responsible military command or civilian service agency
  • Application for the waiver of the tuition fees (in German)

Pregnancy and Illness

Students with medical proof that they were unable to attend university due to pregnancy or illness for a period of more than two months during a semester in which they were required to pay tuition fees, may apply to have the tuition fees waived for that semester.

It is possible to apply for a waiver of the tuition feels for two consecutive semesters.

Primary Childcare Provider

Students with proof that they provided primary childcare for children up to the age of 7, or that time at which the child enters school, during a semester in which they were required to pay tuition fees, may apply to have the tuition fees waived for that semester.

It is possible to apply for a waiver of the tuition feels for two consecutive semesters.

The following documents are required:

  • Birth certificate of the child
  • Residence registration form of the student
  • Residence registration form of the child (the address given must be the same as the address of the student)
  • Affidavit by the student that they provided the primary care for the child
  • Application for the waiver of the tuition fees (in German)

Disability of at Least 50%

Students with medical proof of a disability of at least 50% may apply to have the tuition fees waived.

It is possible to apply for a waiver of the tuition fees for the entire period of study, unless a corresponding entry regarding a time limit exists in the disability pass.

The following documents are required:

  • Disability pass issued by the Federal Social Welfare Office
  • Application for the waiver of the tuition fees (in German)

Mobility Programs

Regular students with proof of completion of courses or practical training within the context of transnational EU, national or university mobility programs may apply for a waiver of the tuition fees.

In general, the application for the waiver of the tuition fees is to be confirmed by the International Relations Department before the stay abroad and then submitted to the Division of Studies.

After returning from abroad, confirmation from the foreign university as proof of the actual stay abroad must be submitted to the Division of Studies.

As confirmation, it is possible to have the foreign university complete the form provided by the Division of Studies. However, individual letters of confirmation from the foreign university will be accepted provided they are written in English and contain all the necessary information.

Receipt of Student Support

Students who received student support in the previous or current semester in accordance with the Student Support Act 1992, BGBl. No. 305/1992, may apply for a waiver of the tuition fees.

It is possible to apply for a waiver of the tuition feels for two consecutive semesters.
