Monday Lunch Seminar

03.06.2019 12:00 - 13:00

Gene regulation mediated by non-coding RNAs, RNA binding proteins and RNA modifications.

Monday Lunch Seminar with Professor Dr. Gunter Meister, Universität Regensburg, Germany Fakultät für Biologie und Vorklinische Medizin.

Prof Gunter Meister is working on the characterization of human Argonaute (Ago) protein-containing complexes, which hold small ncRNAs and therefore are promising tools to identify novel classes of small regulatory ncRNAs. The group has pioneered the characterization of enzymatic activities within small RNA-guided gene silencing pathways and has published important and highly cited papers on these activities. More recently, the research has shifted towards a better understanding of nuclear small RNA functions as well as the interplay between small RNAs and long ncRNAs in human cells. Finally, the group of GM has started to characterize RNA protein complexes on the atomic level using X-ray crystallography.
