About us

The Office for Doctoral Studies offers information, advice, guidance and support to students and staff of the Medical University of Graz in all matters relating to doctoral studies. In addition, we closely work with the administrative services of the University to streamline all aspects and processes related to doctoral studies. We continuously monitor the development and performance of doctoral programs/schools and use this information to improve the supervision of theses, the educational program offered to doctoral students and the overall quality of the doctoral studies. The Office for Doctoral Studies also organizes workshops, summer schools and doctoral days and offers financial assistance for publication fees and attending conferences. In brief, we are the best source of information and advice about any aspect of doctoral studies at the Medical University of Graz, for both newly admitted and advanced students and the supervising and teaching staff alike.

What we do  

  • Source of information for all aspects of doctoral studies at the Medical University of Graz
  • Guidance about which type of doctoral study you should choose (requirements, doctoral schools and programs, types of doctorate:  PhD or Dr. scient. med.)
  • Streamline all organizational processes related to doctoral studies (admission, dissertation agreement, curriculum, examinations, degree completion) with the administrative services of the University
  • Administer the educational program of the doctoral studies and organize special workshops and activities to help students acquire transferable skills needed in academic life
  • Provide financial support in select instances (conferences, publications)
  • Monitor  the performance of students, supervisors and teachers as well as doctoral programs/schools and develop strategies to improve supervision as well as students’ satisfaction and career options
  • Ensure the support of doctoral studies by the University
  • Facilitate exchange with other institutions of the University that are engaged in continuing education and of relevance to doctoral studies
