Univ.-Prof. Dr.med.univ. Kurt Zatloukal

Kurt ZATLOUKAL is a pathologist with profound expertise in molecular pathology of chronic metabolic liver disease. Recently, he identified sequestosome 1 (p62) as an obligatory component of protein aggregates, known as Mallory-Denk bodies, which are present in various pathological situations. Studies in animal models and transfected cells demonstrated that p62 specifically binds to misfolded and ubiquitinated keratin and might therefore be a candidate for an essential regulator of cellular responses in protein aggregation diseases. Kurt Zatloukal is Director of the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Biospecimen Research and Biobanking Technologies (BRBT; cdlaboratory-brbt.at/1-1-HOME.html).
