Senka Holzer

Senka Holzer, PhD is project leader at the Department of Cardiology of the Medical University of Graz within BioTechMed-Graz. Her research is targeting excitation-transcription coupling for managing hypertensive cardiomyopathy.
She started her scientific career with a BSc and MSc degree in Biochemistry in Novi Sad, Serbia, and thereafter she earned a PhD in Molecular Medicine at the Medical University of Graz. After graduation, she was granted a "Hertha Firnberg" fellowship for exceptional young female scientists from the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) to investigate subcellular ion homeostasis and excitation-transcription coupling at the University of California Davis, USA, and the Medical University of Graz, Austria. Senka Holzer continued her research in the field of myocardial remodelling in hypertrophy and heart failure within the frame of the FWF senior post-doctoral fellowship "Elise Richter", prior to her current position.

Julia Kargl, PhD started her scientific path with a BSc degree in Molecular Biology and a MSc degree in Molecular Microbiology at the University of Graz and obtained her PhD in Molecular Medicine at the Medical University of Graz.
As a postdoctoral fellow she was awarded several grants, including a Marie Curie International Outgoing Fellowship, and had the opportunity to work at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, USA.
She is currently a group leader at the Otto Loewi Research Center in Graz. The scientific interests of her group are at the interface of pharmacology and tumor immunology. Her research is focused on the role of the immune system in cancer and how the immune system can be exploited to detect tumors earlier and fight them better. More precisely, her current projects aim to develop a blood-based diagnostic test for breast cancer patients, as well as to characterize tumor-associated neutrophils in non-small cell lung cancer.

Petra Kotzbeck

Petra Kotzbeck, PhD earned her BSc degree in Molecular Biology and MSc degree in Molecular Microbiology at the University of Graz, followed by a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Medical University of Graz. As a postdoctoral fellow, she was working at the Institute of Diabetes and Obesity of the Helmholtz Center Munich.
She returned to Graz for a senior postdoctoral researcher position at the Division of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery and the Division of Endocrinology and Diabetology. In 2018 she started working as a senior scientist at Joanneum Research - Cooperative Centre for Regenerative Medicine, where she was soon promoted to group leader. Additionally, she became assistant professor at the Medical University of Graz in 2021.
Her main research interests are elucidating the role of metabolic pathways in all aspects of wound healing and exploiting them as novel targets for regenerative therapies. Further goal of her projects is to create new disease models (in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo) to facilitate fast translation of experimental data to clinical practice.

Andreas Reinisch, MD PhD is a hematology fellow and independent principal investigator at the Division of Hematology, Department of Internal Medicine, at the Medical University of Graz.
After completing his medical studies in 2006, he undertook a PhD investigating mesenchymal stromal cell biology at the Division of Hematology, Medical University of Graz, from which he graduated in 2010. While training as a clinical fellow for two years, he was awarded an "Erwin Schroedinger" Overseas Research fellowship from the Austrian Research Fund (FWF) that allowed him to conduct his postdoctoral studies at the Hematology Department, Stanford School of Medicine and Stanford Cancer Institute.
Andreas Reinisch currently leads a research lab focusing on the investigation of genetic and molecular events leading to leukemia, with a particular emphasis on the contribution of the bone marrow microenvironment, by using novel humanized mice models and gene-editing technology customized for human primary tissue.

Sarah Stryeck

Sarah Stryeck, PhD is deputy head of RDM Team at the Graz University of Technology and Senior Researcher at Know-Center. As project researcher in data stewardship, she is leading three strategic projects for the TU Graz (ADLS, EuroCC and IDE@S) with 5 team members. In addition, Sarah has a small team at the Know-Center where she is focusing on data platforms and quality assessment. The main tasks in her position include project management, outreach activities, as well as the development of new project ideas and funding acquisition.
Sarah Stryeck was awarded a PhD degree at the Medical University of Graz in 2019. During her PhD in the group of Prof. Tobias Madl, she was involved in a variety of projects in the field of integrated structural biology and metabolomics research.
