Tenure track professorships: A big boost for science

The best (junior) researchers from around the world who hold their own in the selection procedure have a unique opportunity as tenure track professors at Med Uni Graz: they can establish a working group in their field of research in the state-of-the-art, point-of-care environment of Medical Science City Graz and share their special expertise with the international research community over the course of a long-term scientific career. The position is initially limited to six years, during which the goals of the qualification agreement must be met. If the candidate demonstrates outstanding and remarkable achievements, an evaluation of the qualification agreement may be possible sooner. When the defined goals have been achieved, an unlimited term contract as an associate professor is concluded, which entails belonging to the professorial curia as well as taking on responsibility for one's own field of research. Tenure Track Professor of Oncologic Neuroradiology

We are looking for an excellent specialist in radiology and researcher with additional training in neuroradiology (Germany/Switzerland) or an equivalent specialization in neuroradiology to expand our internationally renowned scientific and research agenda in oncologic neuroradiology. The successful candidate should be a proven expert in the field of oncologic neuroradiology and represent it in research, teaching and patient care. This tenure track professorship should help set up an internationally visible center for oncologic neuroradiology at the Medical University of Graz that strengthens the existing research areas of neuro-oncology and neuroimaging. The Division of Neuroradiology, Vascular and Interventional Radiology is part of the Department of Radiology. Closely cooperating with the neurology and neurosurgery departments, the division is an integral component of the Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) Graz. The professorship focuses on neuroradiological imaging and integrates state-of-the-art methods such as multiparametric MRI, quantitative imaging, spectroscopy, radiomics and artificial intelligence (AI) in research, teaching and clinical care. Excellent research conditions and modern infrastructure, for example 3T research MRI (Magnetom Cima.X), two other 3T MR scanners, two 1.5 T scanners and a photon counting CT (Naeotom Alpha) as well as dedicated software solutions provide an optimal foundation for work. The new recently opened Department of Radiology building has its own MRI research area. In addition, the division has an extensive network of regional, national and international partners in clinical treatment and research that can be relied upon to promote innovative projects as well as interdisciplinary exchange. The direct proximity to Medical Science City Graz makes the clinical application of innovative research ideas possible in close collaboration with the medtech, biotech and pharmaceutical sectors. The initial appointment is limited to six years with a qualification agreement (tenure track model pursuant to § 99 para. 5 and 6 of the Universities Act). The career advancement goal is to transfer to a tenured position as an associate professor. If the candidate demonstrates outstanding and remarkable achievements, the qualification agreement may be fulfilled more quickly.


Core duties and responsibilities:

  • Innovatively advancing research in the field of oncologic neuroradiology
  • Regularly publishing scientific papers in the field of oncologic radiology
  • Setting up and directing an internationally renowned research group and acquiring third-party funding
  • Collaborating on clinical care at the Department of Radiology with special consideration of diagnostic neuroradiology
  • Networking through national and international research collaborations
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in medicine, supervising diploma and PhD students and mentoring and promoting junior researchers
  • Participating in effective public relations work/science communication in the research area


Successful candidates must have the following qualifications:

  • Degree in medicine and a relevant doctoral degree
  • Authorization to practice as a specialist in radiology or the equivalent qualification from another country
  • Completed additional training in neuroradiology (Germany/Switzerland) or a comparable specialization in neuroradiology with appropriate experience in patient care
  • Profound research expertise in the field of oncologic radiology
  • Expertise and experience in at least one or more of the following areas: multiparametric and quantitative MRI of the neurocranium, spectroscopy and radiomics, AI-powered image analysis
  • Proven track record of high-impact publications and third-party funding acquisition in the field of neuro-oncology research
  • Experience in managing a scientific working group
  • Experience in university teaching and/or (co)supervising diploma/doctoral students and/or training postdoctoral scholars
  • Research stay abroad of several month at a different research institution than the one where (specialist) training was received
  • C1 level of proficiency in both spoken and written German and English (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
