We are looking for an excellent specialist and researcher to expand our internationally renowned scientific and
research agenda in the field of radiology.
The successful candidate should be a proven expert in the field of oncologic radiology of the abdomen and urogenital
tract and represent it in research, teaching and patient care.
The research area oncologic radiology plays a key role in the Division of General Radiological Diagnostics. The goal of research is to make a significant contribution to precision oncology (especially therapy planning, progress and
response assessment of oncologic diseases) in the field of integrative oncologic radiology of the abdomen and
urogenital tract using high-quality, multiparametric and quantitative imaging. Excellent research conditions and
modern infrastructure provide the optimal foundation for this work, for example, high-end CT systems (including
photon counting technology) and high-end MRI systems (1.5 and 3T clinical scanners and a specific 3T research
scanner) as well as established postprocessing and radiomics infrastructure. In addition, the department is integrated into a broad national and international scientific network, in part through Comprehensive Cancer Center Graz as well as established cooperations with university and extramural research institutions, which offer a suitable structural foundation for interdisciplinary scientific exchange and the development of innovative research approaches.
The initial appointment is limited to six years with a qualification agreement (tenure track model pursuant to § 99
para. 5 and 6 of the Universities Act). The career advancement goal is to transfer to a tenured position as an associate professor. If the candidate demonstrates outstanding and remarkable achievements, the qualification agreement may be fulfilled more quickly.
Core duties and responsibilities:
- Innovatively advancing research in the field of oncologic abdominal and urogenital radiology
- Regularly publishing scientific papers in the field of oncologic abdominal and urogenital radiology
- Designing, acquiring, implementing and managing funded research projects
- Establishing and leading a nationally and internationally recognized multidisciplinary team and
promoting junior researchers and clinicians
- Networking through national and international research collaborations
- Providing inpatient and outpatient care according to modern biopsychosocial and personalized
medicine and being on call
- Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in medicine, supervising diploma and PhD students and
mentoring and promoting junior researchers
- Participating in effective public relations work/science communication in the research area
Successful candidates must have the following qualifications:
- Degree in medicine and a relevant doctoral degree
- Authorization to practice as a specialist in radiology in Austria or an equivalent qualification from
another country with proven subspecialization in abdominal radiology
- Several years of experience in patient care in the field of oncological abdominal and urogenital
radiology
- Profound research expertise, with an emphasis on oncological radiology, as well as the specialized fields of oncological abdominal and urogenital radiology
- Acquisition of third-party funding (peer reviewed or contract research), particularly in the field of oncologic
abdominal and urogenital radiology
- Experience in setting up and directing a scientific working group
- Experience in university teaching and/or (co)supervising diploma/doctoral students and/or training
postdoctoral scholars
- Proven track record of international networking with scientific cooperation partners
- Research stay abroad of several months at a different research institution than the one where
specialist training was received
- C1 level of proficiency in both spoken and written German and English (Common European Framework
of Reference for Languages)
The ideal candidate has the following profile:
- Expertise in multiparametric and quantitative MRI (prostate, hepatobiliary, pancreatic, urologic and
gynecologic oncology)
- Knowledge and experience with radiomics, AI and translational imaging biomarkers
- Proven management and leadership skills
- Gender and diversity skills
- Team player able to motivate colleagues and students
- Responsible work habits and problem-solving skills
- Empathy as well as good communication and social skills
