We are looking for an excellent researcher with great potential to develop an internationally recognized research agenda in the field of Novel Drug Targets in Pulmonary Fibrosis.
The Otto Loewi Research Center focuses on research in the fields of Vascular Biology, Immunology and Inflammation. The aim of research is to make a contribution to novel therapeutics in a variety of diseases with a strong focus on chronic lung diseases. Excellent conditions for research and modern infrastructure, such as access to state-of-the-art lab space, cell culture facilities as well as core facilities for imaging, bioinformatics or animal housing, interstitial lung disease outpatient clinic, provide the optimal foundation. In addition, the research center has an extensive network of national and international partners in science and industry that can be relied upon to promote innovative projects as well as interdisciplinary exchange.
The initial appointment is limited to six years. After the conclusion of a qualification agreement, the career advancement goal is to transfer to a tenured position as an associate professor (tenure track professor pursuant to § 99 para. 5 and 6 of the Universities Act). If the candidate demonstrates outstanding and remarkable achievements, the qualification agreement may be fulfilled more quickly.
Core duties and responsibilities:
- Conducting cutting-edge research in the field of pulmonary fibrosis, using innovative cell and
translational disease models and aiming at the discovery of novel pharmacological targets
- Planning and supporting clinical trials in pulmonary fibrosis
- Producing high-quality scientific publications on a regular basis in the field of pulmonary fibrosis
- Leading an internationally recognized research group and acquiring third-party funding
- Networking through national and international research collaborations
- Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, supervising diploma and PhD students and mentoring and promoting young researchers
- Supporting scientific and public outreach in the research area
- Actively participating in the organization and management of the Division of Pharmacology, including
on matters related to teaching
Successful candidates must have the following qualifications:
- Degree in human medicine and a relevant doctoral degree
- Certification as a specialist in pharmacology and toxicology, or the equivalent qualification from
another country
- Profound research expertise in the field of pulmonary fibrosis and pharmacology
- Proven track record of high-quality publications and peer-reviewed research grants or other third-party
funding as a lead or principal investigator
- Experience in leading a research group
- Previous experience in teaching and/or (co)supervising pre- and postgraduate students
- Postdoctoral research fellowship abroad or at a different institution than where the PhD was completed
(at least six months)
- High level of proficiency in written and spoken English (equivalent to proficiency level C1 of the Common
European Framework of Reference for Languages)
- We expect the successful candidate to acquire, within three years, proficiency in German sufficient for
teaching at the Medical University of Graz and for participation in university committees
