Senior DevOps / Platform Engineer

Core duties and responsibilities:

  • Design maintainable end-to-end pipeline and deployment architecture with bioinformatics and IT teams
  • Implement, maintain and continuously update production diagnostic pipelines
  • Build CI/CD, automated testing, versioning, deployment, release and rollback processes
  • Automate analysis and data-transfer workflows with Python, Linux/Unix shell scripting and Windows PowerShell
  • Strengthen monitoring, logging, error handling, recovery, incident response and technical documentation
  • Critically review human- and AI-assisted code for quality, security, maintainability and reliability
  • Proactively contribute expert solutions during pipeline design meetings and translate functional requirements into reliable, maintainable and production-ready systems


Successful candidates must have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with several years relevant professional experience in the field of DevOps/platform engineering
  • Strong production experience with Linux and Windows systems, software infrastructure and systems integration
  • Expertise in Python automation, as well as strong Linux/Unix shell scripting and Windows PowerShell skills
  • Strong Git, CI/CD, automated testing, deployment and release-management experience
  • Experience with virtualization, containerization and environment management
  • Proven monitoring, troubleshooting and production-support experience
  • Very good German or English proficiency (C1 level)


The ideal candidate has the following profile:

  • Strong teamwork skills and clear communication
  • Proactive, solution-oriented and ethical, with critical system-level thinking
  • Experience with SLURM/HPC or other workload schedulers
  • Experience with Nextflow, Snakemake or comparable workflow managers
  • Experience in infrastructure automation and configuration management, for example with Ansible or Terraform
  • Experience with monitoring, dashboards and centralized log analysis, for example with Prometheus, Grafana or ELK/OpenSearch
  • Experience in secure medical data, diagnostics, GDPR or quality-managed settings
  • Familiarity with DNA sequencing technologies and analysis platforms
  • Portfolio links to public GitHub/GitLab projects or anonymized code and architecture examples

Classification in employment group IVa according to the collective agreement for university employees.


We offer an annual gross salary of EUR 48,304.20 under the collective agreement, based on full-time employment. Previous work experience will lead to a higher basic salary.
